A friend of mine has a 2016 ford Explorer, N/A V6, 118,000 miles
Started knocking, or clunking and at some point the car started shaking and misfiring as well as overheating on the freeway in result.
Coolant was fine and recently replaced waterpump
from the sound of it and the research I did, it may or may not be the cam phasers.
Here's the question, if it was driven with the knocking or clunking for 2 weeks or so, will replacing the cam phasers fix the issue if the clunking was specifically from the bad phasers or was the clunking from it being off timing and possibly permanent damage?
- Would the damage have been permanently done or will replacing the phasers fix the issue.
Usually knocking and clunking sounds from an engine are from rod or main bearings. Whatever the cause, driving for 2 weeks with bad noises from the engine will only cause more damage.
@chucktobias obviously it not good. what was done is done.
But my question is, will bad phasers cause such a thing.
Only someone who knows the 3.5L well would be able to help me who experience an issue like this
