Toyota VS Audi - EU Only

Hello.

So, about 1 year ago, I got myself a 2020 Toyota Corolla, 2.0l hybrid with 196hp, hatch. Seeing how ''bad'' some Toyota cars are doing now - Tundra engine problems, trany issiues, GR corollas starting on fire ect...- I want to know, should I keep my curent Toyota car, or should I try for something like an Audi?

I'm from the EU, so all Audi cars here are made in Germany, whilst all Toyota cars are made in the UK, Francce or Turky - still have the engine and e-cvt made in Japan-. I know some people who have older Audi models and they have like 350 000 to 430 000 km on them, still the 1st manual trany and engine -I only like to drive automatics thou-. But I have't seen many Toyotas with 200 000, let alone 300 000km on them. Now everyone says that Audi is a luxury brand and they are endless money pits, as they age. But, does that apply to all of them? I'm looking at A5's and A4's, only sportsback/sedans, not a fan of wagons. And some have like 150 000 to 250 000km, 2017 to 2021 years, diesels, petrol. Ofc, I'm looking for ones that have less then 150k km, idealy less then 100k, but, most of them then cost from 25k eur and up. I paid 20k eur for my Toyota (Dec/23), it had only 37k km on it then, now it has 51k km so still new-ish. I do about 1600km a month, if that helps.

Any tips, expriences, first hand knowledge? Idc if it's a petrol or a diesel, althou, I now have 3,9l/100km with my Toyota, I know that Audies would ''drink'' more. Also, now sure how much would insurence cost, maintenece, services and so on.

Thank you.

It depends how long do you want to keep them. I personally would buy an older low mileage Audi (or other VW brands) with EURO 5 engines or older (1.9 or 2.0 both diesel) because EURO 6 ones are way more complex due to AdBlue additive.

About Toyota I personally keep eyes on for 1.4 diesel if there is any decent one to sell. I'm not interested in generation that came out in 2019. They are mainly hybrids.

A fun fact. 4 years ago my brother and I bought new used cars. I bought a 2 years old Auris with 1.33 petrol with cca 15k km on odo for cca 13k €. He got a 3 or 4 years old A4 quattro 2.0 TDI with cca 200k km for cca 20k €.

I still have my Auris while he got rid of his car a year ago due problems and has not come to 300k km

@g-t
Hello, as always, thank you for the quick reply and good answer... Not going to lie, I want an Audi, because a loooot of women go crazy when they see a guy driving one.. Just a few days ago I met someone, who doesn't care about cars at all, she likes the way my Corolla looks, so... No need to get an Audi anymore 😀 They are 2 expenisve anyways... Will just stick to my Corolla 🙂 Again, thank you !

You are welcome. If you want Audi to attract women, prepare your money for both

@g-t That's for sure - a guy who buys an Audi to attract women will quickly find himself with two endless money pits. To quote Mr. T., "I pity the fool!"

@chucktobias such woman can make a man a millionaire. He only needs to be a billionaire first

@g-t NGL, I died laughing at these comments XD I was only kidding haha, idc if a woman finds my car attractive or not, I don't need a gold digger, I'm poor as we speak XD Thanks againg thou 🙂

That is wise. You are welcome

Audis are endless money pits. I would never buy one. Your Corolla is generally one of the most reliable cars out there

@scottykilmer
Well, if Scotty himself replys, then I will have to listen and agree hah, love my Corolla anyways, it's amazing, genuinely really like it, so will just stick with it till the wheels fall off 🙂 Thank you !

Scotty is not familiar with cars for Europe
