Hello Scotty and happy Tuesday,

Im a huge fan, enough so that my wife gets irritated that she has to fight with you for my attention. 🤣

Anyways, I own a 2016 Kia Soul and a 2019 Toyota CH-R and I noticed that the oil in the Kia gets dirtier and darker significantly faster than the CH-R. Im very curious as to why that might be.

I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum in both vehicles.

A thousand miles after oil changes the oil in the Kia is already turning amber brownish while the CH-R is still bright yellow.

Thanks a ton I appreciate the help ❤️

because Kia doesn't build good engines.

Im very curious as to why that might be.

Because unlike the rest of the world, in North America Hyundai-Kia chose to use the crappy Gamma GDI engine.

For the rest of the world, that's a Gamma MPi engine, with 10 less horsepower and 90% less problems.

My Gamma MPi had amber-light brown oil when I was replacing it after 5k miles.

On this engine you should replace the oil every 5k miles,

intake valve cleaning on this engine is a MUST,

Other then that, You want to keep an eye out for oil consumption and borescope the cylinders when you feel it's down on power or runs worse as the catalyst falls apart and pieces of it scratch up the cylinder walls - and if they're scratched you know it's time to trade it in before you'll need a new engine. these scratches are not reversible.
