I was wondering if a 2017 Mazda 3 Hatchback automatic is a good first car to buy? I want something that's reliable but cheaper in price than a used Toyota or Honda.

Yes, they are a good choice for a first car, especially since they came with naturally aspirated engines and even offered a manual transmission as an option.

Right now is not the best time to buy a used car cuz prices are insanely high. However, if you can get it at a reasonable price, it can be a good hatch if maintained. Make sure a professional mechanic checks it out before purchase.
