My mom is offering to sell me her 2017 Mazda CX-5 with AWD. It’s the 2.5 with no turbo, and it has 98,000 miles on it. Will this be a reliable car? I’ve read about Mazda engines having a water pump issue and I don’t know if the 2.5 in her car is effected. She’s had no issues with it.
The Mazda engine with the water pumps issue were made with Ford, the cyclone engines. I believe the CX-5 uses SkyActiv engine. TMK, SkyActiv doesn’t have water pump problems. But please double check. Sometimes automakers just rename old technology with a new name.
Yes, nearly all (if not all) CX-5 models were made in Japan and therefor are quite dependable. Their skyactiv 4-cylinder engines are pretty bulletproof and the newer vehicles share a lot of technology and mechanical components with Toyotas including their transmissions.
I’d say it would be a worthy investment over the long run and a safe bet. Since you’re buying this vehicle off your mother, you wont have to worry about someone trying to pull a fast one on you. If the car has been in your family over the past 6 years you’ll also know the vehicles full history as well, which will remove some uncertainty of how well it’s been treated over its lifespan.
if I was in your position I’d take the deal and run.
