Hey Scotty,
I have a 2017 Toyota Camry XLE that I purchased in October. The vehicle now has 152,000 miles and hasn’t given me a single issue until recently. I replaced the spark plugs with new ones because it still had the original ones from 2017. All of a sudden, when the car is stopped, I’m getting a gas smell through my vents. It seems to be intermittent, it doesn’t smell when my AC is on, and only smells when I’m stopped or going slow (coming in the drive way, red light, etc.) There’s no telltale signs of a leak under the hood, and it’s not the gas cap or the exhaust (I watched your video about this from 12 years ago.) Any ideas what this could be? Thanks in advance!
First thing you want to do is to pinpoint the smell. So with it idling in your driveway, go back to the exhaust pipe by the trunk and see if the smell comes out of there. If it does, your car is running rich for various reasons like injectors, spraying it wrong or some other problem. Now if that doesn't smell and the smell is coming from under the hood when you open it, start checking for seeping hoses, look at the fuel injectors and when the o-rings go bad you notice the ones that are bad. O-rings will be all clean and shiny and the other ones will be dirty. And that means you would either need new fuel injectors if the plastic is leaking or new seals if it's just the seals
A malfunctioning EVAP system will often create a gas odor.I’m getting a gas smell through my vents. It seems to be intermittent, it doesn’t smell when my AC is on, and only smells when I’m stopped or going slow
