Scotty, I have the above vehicle and it was pulling a p0305 misfire. It got pretty rough driving as I was taking it to the mechanic. He changed out plugs, tested the ignition coil, and then finally changed the injector on it as nothing was fixing it. Before he changed the plugs he also did a full injection cleaning service. I got the car back thinking I am taking it to a dealer since he couldn't fix it. I drove the car home, put in premium gas, cleared the codes and car ran fine. A couple of days later, I am getting a p0301 code at startup. It started with the stop start feature being disabled with no check engine light. I put a scanner on and can see the pending p0301 code. I changed out the ignition coil since the mechanic moved that coil from 5 to 1 during the test, thinking it was the root problem. Furthermore, I cleared it out and ran fine. The Start Stop light came on again, I checked it and saw the pending code again. I left it on since I am taking it to the dealer. I stared the vehicle and noticed it starts rough, but as you drive it smoothes out. At startup, I let it run rough rather than hitting the gas like I normally do to see if it would correct itself. It finally did, but not before the check engine light came on with the p0301 code. Went out this morning and started it again and instead of idling at startup at 500-700 rpm it was over 1000. I turned it off and started agian and it was at the usual 500-700 rpm. At this point, I am taking it to the dealer with what I am thinking another injector, bad battery, or something major. Do you have any thoughts on what it could be? I find it curious that the p0305 is gone and the p0301 has taken its place.
Well I feel sorry for you cuz those are terrible vehicles and generally turn into electrical nightmares as they age. And you're going to the dealer who are generally the biggest crooks on the planet. It could be all kinds of problems from fuel injectors, computer failure, wiring failure, you name it. If I were you, I would try and independent mechanic rather than the dealer. They generally love taking people for a ride once the cars are out of warranty
