Hello. I have a 2018 Honda Civic hatchback with 65900 miles. The A/C has always been slightly weak. If it is not very cold, it will get slightly cold. Of it is warmer than 78, the A/C will be still warm air. I have an extended warranty on compressor from Honda until 2028. Problem with warranty is that if they find the issue to be something other than the compressor or evaporator, they will charge $250 diagnostic fee. I took it in a couple months ago and my refrigerant did leak because of the common issue. They replaced the compressor and evaporator free. It fixed the problem at first but the A/C is already not really working. The air is still warm.
Is there any better solution other than having to go to dealership every few months and risking a diagnostic fee? Did I just get unlucky, or should I expect this to happen again after they replace the faulty compressor and evaporator again? You would think that they would have fixed the problem if they were forced to extend the warranty to 10 years.
Sounds like you may still have a leak. You might want to take it to an independent mechanic (not a dealer or chain shop) that works on AC for diagnosis and if it looks like a warranty issue present the findings to the dealer. You'll need to pay for the diagnostics (that's just the way it is if you can't do it yourself) but that should be a lot less at an independent shop than what the dealer would charge.
Note that air conditioning problems tops the list of problem areas for that model.
