Which oil should I use

2019 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium FWD

I live in Dubai, UAE. I imported my car from US, according to the manual I should only use SAE 0W-16 oil but the temperature here in Dubai is really high (40 degrees C).

Can I still use 0W-16 oil or should I switch to 5W-30?

Thanks

Double check your manual.  There is most likely two different weights for your specific car. 0W-16 and 0W-20.

0W-16 is what is recommended.

You can use 0W-20 in a pinch.

If you use 0W-20, you have to do your oil changes more frequently.

Don't use 5W-30. It's not rated for your engine. It might even be too thick for your engine. The tolerances are so tight on modern Toyota's that a thinner oil like 0W-16 is what works best.

This is true, the manual says I should use 0W-16 and in case of using 0W-20 I should go back to 0W-16 on the next oil change and also I should change the oil filter.

please search the forum. This has been answered many times. All engines run at the same temperature (~90C)

It's also answered in our FAQ. Use the recommended oil.

Thank you so much MountainManJoe (@imperator)
