Hey, Scotty!
I just bought a 2020 Subaru WRX STI and I would like to know what I can do to make the life of the engine and transmission last as long as possible while also driving relatively aggressive. Is it a matter of more frequent maintainence or will its life decrease regardless of more maintainence? Thanks!
Keep revving your engine!

Keep the maintenance up. Many problems will show before warranty is up, if there are any. Of course, driving harder causes more wear.
dont drive aggressively until engine is warmed up a bit is the advice i was always given. although depends on what you're driving - some cars benefit from it. STX would strike me more of a, dont floor it till you're at a decent temp kind of car
Generally driving your car hard will just decrease its life, plain and simple. It's a fact that I've had to come to terms with on my Subaru too, lol. But there are some things you should be particularly mindful of if you do a lot of spirited driving. Go super easy on it until your engine is completely warmed up, of course. Don't put too much load on it at super low RPMs (second gear pulls), the EJ is still known for ringland failures and that's something that can accelerate that wear quite a bit. Change your diff oil frequently. Subaru recommends 30,000 miles for severe conditions. I believe Subaru recommends the same for your trans oil, but I would double check on that one. Regardless, change your trans oil more frequently. Naturally you should change your oil a bit more frequently as well, 5000 miles is fine for full synthetic, maybe 4000 if you're feeling anxious about it. Only use the type they recommend on the oil cap. Subaru engineers can be stupid, but they know their engines well enough to know what oil you should put in it. These are all pretty much common sense items, but it's good to make sure. It's especially easy to forget your diff oil.
