Hello,
I recently purchased a new 2021 honda civic lx with the base 2.0 and cvt transmission. I've noticed everytime I take my foot off the gas the rpms jump up slightly, I'm thinking to mimic engine braking. It does this no matter if I'm going uphill, downhill, or just straight. I don't mind the feature, except everytime I stop there is an accompanying jerk as I watch the rpms drops 300-400 instantly. Also makes turns not smooth since the rpms don't drop until I give it gas again giving the car that same jerk feeling. It's hard to find information on it and I can't believe it is normal. I have driven other cvts, and although they are weird, they never did this. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
Wishing you the best,
Nick
Ps: it doesn't do this when the engine is cold.
Have you contacted the dealer?
I have an appointment for the 15th, I will give an update on what they say. Thanks for the response!
They tell me it's normal, I drove another one and it does the same thing I guess, maybe a little more subtle. I've noticed if the ac is on it disengages before you stop and feels normal. Does the same thing in sport mode. Seems to only happen in drive when the engine is warm. Hopefully this helps anyone noticing the same thing.
Check with another dealer after you’ve driven the car ~5000 miles to see if it has gotten better or worse.
Honda CVTs are renowned for being very smooth, so obviously there’s something amiss with the 2021 Civic..
Thanks for reporting back, by the way.
Was just thinking about this and do you think it could be related to the torque converter in anyway. Like the rpms aren't matching when stopping causing it to jerk. I don't know too much about torque converters, but that's what I'm leaning towards.
Honda CVT transmissions do not have a torque converter..
I see it has a start clutch, feels like bad rev matching in a manual. It was a thought I guess
