2022 Honda Jazz Crosstar Hybrid Change oil sooner and void warranty claim?

Hi Scotty, I finally got for my wife a 2022 Honda Jazz HEV hybrid. It’s got a 5 yrs warranty on it but they said if I change the oil before 20000 km the warranty won’t cover any damage. There’s no way I’d drive 20K km before replacing the oil. What’s the best way to approach this situation? Thank you

never mind what they "say". Read your contract.

Read your contract

And your owner’s manual, for the OEM recommended (not dealer) engine oil change interval.

Since long service internals are a hoax,

most modern cars offer requirements based on time and alternative service requirements for "harsh conditions"

If you drive under ~10,000km a year, as the manual suggests, replace the oil based on time.

No matter how much you driven, almost all manuals require oil replacement after 12 months no matter what.

So If that's all you drive in a year, going even ~12,000km (7.5k miles) in between oil changes is reasonable.

So ask a dealer (or whomever can service your car without voiding the warranty) to go off the time period.

If you drive over ~10,000km a year, look in your manual for service requirements for "harsh conditions",

about 70% of drivers actually need to service their cars using the "harsh conditions" requirements,

Under these "harsh conditions" the manual usually instructs replacing the oil much more frequently.

(usually half the regular service interval, so If I had to guess, about 10k km or 6 months)

So ask a dealer (or whomever can service your car without voiding the warranty) to go off these requirements.

For example on my car, the regular service interval for 'normal' conditions is 15,000k km,

BUT if I "Drive in stop-start traffic OR/AND Drive in congested areas OR/AND Drive in mountainous areas, ... etc."

The manual requires me to change my oil every 7,500km or 6 months.

So I can ask the dealer to service my car based on that.

Just make sure to read the warranty booklet! It might have critical information.

Demand that the dealer show you where it says changing the oil early will void your warranty, in writing.

I don’t understand these clowns. Doesn’t changing oil more often equate to more $$ for them?

Yes, if you have them do it.

no. selling you more cars equates to more $$

That's ridiculous. 20000 km is ~12000 miles. Change the oil every 5k miles using the right oil and never go to the dealer for anything like that.
