2022 Mercedes-Benz G550 Transmission Issue and Misfire

Greetings Scotty. A friend and client of mine has a brand-new Mercedes-Benz G550 that she took delivery of last month (August 2022). When she was driving down Interstate-95 in Miami, the transmission shifted into neutral ON ITS OWN. The same thing then happened to her boyfriend, who is also my client and the father of a good friend of mine since elementary school. The car shifted into neutral on its own. But after the second time, the vehicle started misfiring.

As of the time I put in this question, the vehicle is at Mercedes-Benz of Miami. They replaced the fuel pump only to realize that replacement part was defective and another fuel pump is waiting to be delivered. What is actually wrong with this vehicle as it started misfiring after it automatically, with zero driver input, went into neutral while driving?

Those cars are ridiculously complex, riddled with "because we can" technology. It's very likely to come down to a computer or software issue that only the dealer or the manufacturer, if anyone, can find and fix.

It’s under warranty, right?  Let Mercedes figure it out.

It is under warranty and has only 500 miles on the clock. It is at the Mercedes-Benz dealer as of me inputting this reply. They have kept the car for over a week and have not provided my client with a loaner.

Unfortunately Ive seen this before. Its usually the transmission control module. The can do some funky things when going bad or there is a short. As far as the misfire goes it may be a separate issue . It's also possible it might be the other way around. A bad sensor, part  or bad ecu  throwing a transmission code and putting it into a type of limp mode  . As others said if it's still covered have Mercedes figure it out and fix it. It can run alot of money if it isn't covered.
