Hey Scotty, I have recently had thoughts about buying a Subaru BRZ. I would preferably like to buy it new or with very few miles on it but I was thinking about getting a 2016-2020 BRZ until they announced the 2022 BRZ. What are your thoughts on the BRZ and the next Gen 2022 BRZ? (If I get one I would get it with a manual transmission)
I'm not a super knowledgeable guy on BRZ's or Subaru's in general but from what i can tell you id say the 2022 should be absolutely avoided. a 2016 BRZ might be a good option it is DOHC dual over head cams just like in Civic Si's which is generally a safer and cheaper way to get more power in higher rpms compared to turbos or superchargers. It's a 4 cylinder 200hp car.
My overall advice would be to join a bunch of Subaru forums and get advice directly from BRZ owners, the car is very new and information surrounding it is going to be scarce. Finding active BRZ owners is going to open you up to a significant amount of information that isn't likely to be found elsewhere. I'm not sure about the warranty for the 2016 models but you'd be smart to do a bit of research about that because you have the benefit of learning about how the car is going to operate when meticulously maintained.
With a new car warranty the buyer is taking advantage of free maintenance and labor. It is the most likely time a car owner is going to keep up to date with things since it comes at no cost to them. You really want to know if there are any issues with the car under warranty or perhaps even after the warranty ends. You don't want to be stuck with costly repairs of potential recalls that haven't come to the surface yet. Dropping 25-30 grand for a car is no small fee don't rush things and do meticulous research to make sure you make the best informed opinion.
Subarus are not knows for quality and I won't buy a new ANYTHING. You're absolutely flushing your money down the toilet and losing thousands of dollars the second you drive it off the lot. And those cars will wear out faster because its turbo charged. Buy it if you don't value your money at all.
