What do yall think of the 2022 Toyota Tundra? There's not much info on it but we know its going to have a twin-turbo V6. Honestly I think its not worth a few miles a gallon and so does my father who is looking for a reliable truck to buy. However he did say that he is fine with a Hybrid Toyota truck. And the Tundra will be having a hybrid trim. I don't know if it will be a Twin-turbo v6 hybrid or a NA v6 hybrid. If any of you guys know anything about it, please share the info.
Regardless of the powertrain configuration, Scotty does not recommend buying the first year of any make and model since they need to be out couple of years to really show themselves.
I can’t say anything right now until it has been out for a few years. One thing is for sure - more complexity with a twin turbo V6 engine mated to (what will most likely be) a 10-speed AT. How both fair in a truck application - time will tell. Even though it’s a Toyota, that doesn’t mean it gets an (automatic) free-pass on “it must be reliable since it’s Toyota.” It doesn’t work like that. Truth is we just don’t know: Scotty always tells us to wait a few years (5-10 years) to see how the generation fairs. I don’t expect folks to wait that long, but avoid first years (or two) of new generations so the bugs/issues can be worked out.
I would never buy a vehicle with any turbos or 10 speed automatic transmissions and especially new models that haven't proven themselves. Turbos are just a way to get more power from an engine that should have had it to begin with. They are problematic to say the least.
Twin turbos are the result of the same kind of thinking they used in the 60s when some semi brilliant engineer said "Well, if two headlights are good, four headlights would be better."
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Tundra

No! Others already said not to - new model/generation, et. al. I agree with them fully! But there also is a second important reason you should refuse to buy a new car or truck today: … you get ripped off at today’s market conditions! Yes. Wait until hoi polloi regain some sense and start refusing to pay exuberant prices for today’s new (and used) cars and trucks. Trust me, there will be a day - again - and you will be able to pay a lot less than MSRP for the car than today demanded ransoms of 5-10% over. Go to the beach and cool off, instead. (… girls sporting latest of beachwear right now, so go promptly!)
F.S.
If you/he has to have a new truck, it’s probably better than the alternatives, even for a new model year. But in light of the current full-size truck market, I doubt they’ll be givenum away.
PS: the most interesting rumor is plug in hybrid, like the Prius prime and Rav4 prime but huger. No doubt will be $$ but if anyone has hybrid systems worked out, it’s Toyota.
Nobody knows what the reliability will be or what issues will crop up until a few years go by.
I wouldn't recommend being a year one Guinea pig for any car maker....even Toyota.
