2023 Camry SE vibrations during gear shift - it only has 6,000 miles. Rear stabilizer bar assembly already been replaced!

Buenos dias Scotty,

1. Loud clanking noise in the rear of the car turned out to be the whole rear stabilizer bar assembly - dealership replaced those parts. I went about 5 times until they got it right.

2. Now, during take off and sometimes on the highway when the gears are shifting I get a vibration that can be felt on all the seats, the dashboard, the rear view and center console.

3. I took to the dealership they said no error codes on the computer and the mechanics drove it but no vibrations felt.

4. ChatGPT says it could be bad gasoline, suspension or transmission problems, engine misfires or worn engine mounts - the car has 6,000 miles and I've had trouble with it from the get go. Lemon Law Lawyer said there is nothing that can be done since they issues are not that serious.

What do you recommend I do?  Take it to another dealership? Take to a mechanic? Trade it in? Please advise and your help is greatly appreciated. Having this concern is tiring me out, draining my energy.

Thank you for all that you do in schooling us - I want to comeback as a mechanic in my next life.

Best,

Oz

What do you recommend I do?

I recommend you don't waste your time with chatGPT. It's just a language model. Great for translation and writing but doesn't know jack. It spits out a lot of bad information on technical subjects.

Keep going back until they fix it. Try a different dealership if you have to, or call Toyota customer service.

Ok great will do thank you very much for your response. Best, Oz

Since when is "ChatGPT" a mechanic? Might as well ask your toaster.

Take it to another dealer. It's a new car, they're required to fix it.

Hahaha yea I don't know thought it was a good idea at the time, not so much now. Yes sir will do thank you Chuck. Best, Oz

ChatGPT says

Interesting idea going to chatgpt...

With AI, it can give you good information, if you properly word your question. With a computer like AI, garbage in = garbage out. If you want a good specific answer to your issue, you need to be just as specific when you type out your issue. Most of those possibilities from chatgpt dont really apply to your situation.

Something like... "Why does my new car vibrate during gear shifts? Its a Toyota Camry with an automatic transmission."

Either way that's not going to fully get you there. Bottom line is it sounds like your transmission has an issue. The dealer either A, genuinely didnt feel it during a test drive, or B, they did find a small issue but they don't want to fix it unless they absolutely have to. My advise is try to capture it on video so you can show the dealership/ mechanic what's going on. So they cant say they dont know what youre talking about.

Id also take it to another dealer as Chuck said.

Yeah everyone's making them cheaper today.

Haha they asked us to start using ChatGPT at work just thought I'd throw it out there. Ah man transmission issue bummer. Yes, I will take it to another dealer. Thank you very much for your response. Best, Oz

Sounds like a tranny issue, go to the dealer and make them replace it.

(The others who had this issue outside of warranty paid over $6k for a refurbished one)

The 8 speed on Camry's / Highlanders ain't holding up.

You can look on this forum and find quite a few of these dying at low millages (just usually not this low)

The root cause of the issue is Toyota using lower torque capacity versions of this tranny with larger 4 and 6 cylinder engines than Peugeot-Citroen does with 3 cylinders - Toyotas horrid tranny cooling system also doesn't help with longevity.

It can be other issues, but to me it definitely sounds tranny related.

<off topic>

ChatGPT is basically a more powerful parlor trick of a type going back at least to the old ELIZA computer program from decades ago. It may have amusement value but it's just an automaton looking up massive amounts of data with no human judgement or experience. I wouldn't rely it for any kind of serious advice.

It's more than just amusement. You can ask it complicated questions, and even follow up with a responses to its answer. It can provide very detailed & accurate steps on how to do something. If you ask it how to correct your fuel trims it'll give you some possible solutions. Yeah you cant go into it totally blind you need to have some relevant knowledge to dismiss anything that doesn't necessary apply (hence the be specific part) or if something seems just wrong. I've had it write me small macros for solidworks as a test, they just take a little tweaking to fit what im trying to do. Look up chat gpt saves a dogs life, pretty impressive. I'm not super pro-AI, and I understand its only as good as the information available to it, but it is way more than just amusement.

One can do pretty much the same thing using an ordinary search engine. Not really impressed here.

Ditto @chucktobias One's search terms determine the results in both

That's right, @hixster. I'll be impressed when a conversation with an AI goes something like this:

Dave: "Open the pod bay doors please, HAL."

HAL: "I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and that is something I cannot allow to happen."

Yeah, it'll take 20x longer to decipher all that information and figure out how to effectively search for the answers considering all variables at once.

I have not run into that kind of problem using search engines. Possibly working in the computer industry since the 1970s has made me jaded about the latest hot ticket. I've seen many over hyped "this will change the world" technologies come and go that fail to meet promises and wind up crashing and burning. AI in particular has been chased for decades. However we are getting way off topic for this site so we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

they asked us to start using ChatGPT at work

what is your line of work?

Information Technology - usually when looking for a solution, I'll go to Google and read through the articles/forums etc but with Chatgpt I ask it to find the solution and it has been working so far. I guess what it does is reads through the articles for me and spits out best solution

yeah I think it's just a fancy data aggregator with statistical analysis. It's not like it actually understands the subject matter it's regurgitating. It can't discern good information from fake like a human, and it very often gets it wrong.

I saw headlines recently saying that it's actually getting stupider. So either it's been digesting too much bad information, or they're intentionally dumbing it down.
