Hello,
reaching out for any tips or information in keeping my 3.0 ecodiesel engine alive and well. I have a 2023 Jeep wrangler sport unlimited with 3rd generation of the 3.0 ecodiesel.
With the carbon build up that occurs internally, could i use Seafoam as prescribed to keep the engine and fuel system clean?
I’ve seen plenty of failures in diesels that resulted from aircraft fuel (JP5/JP8). Most problems occurred when biodiesel was added to the system without consulting my shop beforehand.
my fear is that i might expect similar results with my ecodiesel down the road if i am not using some sort of cleaner a few miles before oil changes.
I just hope to keep this ecodiesel alive and well as long as possible. Any info is greatly appreciated, thank you !
I agree with @scottykilmer on the ecodiesel. Long term reliability with those has been quite poor.
However: I don’t have any personal experience with them, but I did do a little research on them when I bought my 3L Duramax in 2022. Most of the problems with the ecodiesel come from inadequate maintenance. They are very fussy for a diesel (not bulletproof like, say, an old 7.3 Powerstroke). They must be maintained ah-gressively! Don’t follow the owners manual or trip computer for maintenance, but do this:
- oil and filter every 5000 miles, no matter what
- air and fuel filters every 10,000
I’d also use a good quality fuel additive (I like Hot Shot’s Secret and Powerservice, But there are other good ones).
There are happy long term ecodiesel owners out there, so it can be done, but they all are fastidious on maintenence.
Best.
One I would never use seafoam in a diesel engine. Two. I would never buy that stupid Italian design diesel engine. They've had so many problems with them. But you bought it so you better take care of it. I would change the oil and filter frequently and I wouldn't rev it up too high either. They're not the strongest engines putting Italian crap and supposedly American vehicles is a big mistake. When stelantis took over the quality. Started going down the toilet in Jeeps.
Well crap. Guess I’ll swap out for a frontier then! Totally agree on the seafoam aspect too, but i kept getting the suggestion. Thank you for the heads up, Scotty !
