Scotty I have a 2019 base model 4runner with 11,000 miles. What scan tool would you suggest that does more than just pull up error codes but not as involved as a professional mechanics scan tool. I am also an avid surf fisher so I’m looking for good tires to put into the sand. Thanks a lot man
How much are you willing to spend on the scan tool? For a more advanced scan tool that can scan every computer module and show you live data for them, I strongly recommend the Autel Maxicheck MX808 which is about $400, and the cheapest tablet-style scan tool (easier on your eyes). However, it does not have bi-directional control which should be OK for most of us.
If you do buy an expensive scan tool like that, I strongly recommend you buy from one of the company’s authorized dealers if you care about support, service, and warranty, and to make sure you don’t get scammed. Some of those expensive ones (like from Amazon) are not North American models and if you need to have it serviced you have to send to China and/or they might work for a few months then completely fail and then you are out of luck.

Check here to see if your vehicle is covered: (select the MX808 scan tool)

One place I recommend buying from: they are an authorized Autel dealer and I bought my MX808 from them

Regarding “sand” tires I would get all terrain tires (my favorite and that I use are the BF Goodrich K02’s) and then on sand you want to air down quite a bit. Afterwards you will want to air back up (I recommend a portable air compressor from Viair - I have the Viair 400P).
The only "sand tires" I know of are the paddle tires they put on buggies. You would NOT want to drive them on the road.
Any tires will do, and if you want keep from sinking into the sand, then make a like a camel. Deflate them a bit to spread out the footprint. ( and carry a compressor obviously).
