Hello Scotty, good day and I hope everything is well. my vehicle is a 2021 Toyota Innova Diesel Manual with 1,093 km in odo.

Just want to ask, which is better, a Toyota 5W30 Regular Oil or a Toyota 5W40 Fully Synthetic Oil. Based on my research, 5W30 is better for fuel consumption than the 5W40 however the only available here in our place for fully synthetic Toyota genuine oil is the 5W40 grade. I am planning to change my Toyota's engine oil with the available Toyota 5W40 fully synthetic oil but I am kinda worried that this might not be a good idea since as per my manual, the recommended grade is 5W30. Many thanks Scotty.

Stick to what your owner’s manual recommends.

You don’t have to use genuine Toyota engine oil. You can use any good name brand oil, as long as it matches the engine oil specification mentioned in your owner’s manual.

I would not start changing up oil weights. Use what is recommended.

Only use the recommended viscosities listed in the owner's manual. Using 5w-30 instead of 5w-40 will NOT give you a noticeable difference on fuel consumption. Theoretically, yes, it would give better gas mileage due to less drag on engine components. But in reality, it is negligible.

Follow the recommendations in the owners manual.

Use what’s recommended in the manual or any updated specs from the manufacturer.

Check to see what weight oil to use based on the ambient temperature.  A lot of people use 5w30 in the winter and 10w40 in the summer.  Look in your owners manual for specs.

Always us the manufacturer’s recommended oil.

Thanks so much for the insights guys. Also, forgot to mention it in the beginning but, my vehicle is a 2021 Toyota Innova Diesel Manual with 1,093 km in odo.

Also, follow-up question, is the Castrol Magnatec Stop-Start Oil any good? Have you guys encountered it?
