Hey Scotty,

I found a 99 Accord on Craigslist from a private seller.  Car has 85k miles and a 5-speed manual transmission, the seller is asking $3400.  Is this a good buy and are there anythings to look outbfor on this Accord?

Thanks,

Ben

I have a 99 Accord MT.

If you do decide to get it, the number one thing I recommend is to replace the driver side door latch. Mine broke at 250k miles. And they are known to go out eventually. Kinda a silly one. It’s a pain in the ass getting out the passenger side. Hahaha. Maybe open up the panel and see what condition it is in?

Make sure the timing belt, balancing belt, and water pump are in good shape. They probably need to be replaced since it is so old, if it hasn’t been replaced already.

Overall a great vehicle. And at that mileage can probably go double or triple that still. (Assuming everything checks out).

As far as price. It does seem a little high, but that might be because it is lower mileage than most.

Too much money for that old car. Consider that it is likely you need to replace most the rubber/plastic parts due to the age and not all of them are cheap. besides that, if the engine and transmission were taken care ofm they can last a really long time.
