99 Odyssey ran under bad timing

Paid a mobile mechanic to replace my water pump was leaking bad. He did do that, but he did not set timing correctly. It was off a lil. We ran car for like 2 - 3 mins under bad timing. It ran rough misfired. And sounded like it wanted to die. Ran only in idle.

Bought this 99 honda odyssey with 167k miles. Seems oil is almost black. But tested 4 of 6 cylinders and was around 150-180 was hard to test other ones but assume its ok. Did head gasket test its ok. Transmission shifted a lil hard but no slips only drove for like 30 mins tops tho after bought it. Trans fluid is brownish. Smells burnt. Drained 2 quarts. Filled up with honda atf. Plan to do again soon.

So could engine be damaged with running in idle like that. It was a water pump replacement job.

I have a family member offering to pay foe my car to be towed and taken to a actual shop to get timing fixed.

Im concerned of putting several hundred into this, if i havent driven car for more than 30 mins. Havent fully tested trans with new partial fluid. Idk if engine is damaged now.

I could maybe trade it to a friend for a 07 pontiac vibe with a new engine. 200k miles. Smashed front end. Just need a new hood, 1 headlight, radiator. Other than that runs cherry.

But bought van to convert it. To have a home for camping here in hawaii. And could go to states and come back and somewhat have a home.

When first bought it i paid 1300 had bad water pump they tried to use copper seal but lasted 15mins after bought it and started leaking again. Hence why I havent had a chance to drive it much.

Really would like to keep the van if possible. Has new front suspension parts. And interior was taken care of. Original and nice.

Any advice on how to go about this?

You might get lucky and didn't damage the engine. With that said, I would tow it to a good mechanic to check the whole car if you want to keep it.
