Hi I bought a 2002 hyundai santa fe knowing the ac didn't work because the gentleman gave me $500 off the price of the car. And I've replaced ac compressors in the past. The truck has 93,632 miles on it it runs perfectly. But anyway it blows warm air. The clutch moves freely by hand I put some freon in the truck and it's in the red. The clutch will not engage
I'd personally do some research on air conditioners before you start playing around with yours to save from inadvertently doing more damage than there could already be, if there is any.
Rent a set of full A/C manifold gauges and check your system's pressure before you go any further. That will give you a good idea on where the system is right now. Don't use those low side only gauges that come on the recharge cans, the high side is most important -too much pressure can blow the system up if that compressor randomly kicks on and it's overfilled. Anything from a bad clutch relay to a bad compressor or even a bad pressure safety switch could be your culprit, you won't fully know until you determine if there's refrigerant in the system. Put your pressure readings up, someone will be able to help!
What do you mean "it's in the red"? What are the system pressures?
I'm sorry about that Justin shepherd and Chuck Tobias I didn't double check my question. I did hook up a set of ac manifold gouges the low side pressure is 40 high side pressure about the same 45 and like I said clutch won't engage
OK, you should have enough pressure for the clutch to engage (low pressure cutoff is usually around 20 psi), so you likely have an electrical problem; clutch coil, low pressure cutoff switch, relay, etc. If you hotwire the clutch with the engine off does it engage? If so the clutch coil is OK and the problem is further down the line.
