I have a 2005 Buick Century with 94000 miles on it. When I turn on the ac in the car it blows cold but it makes noise in the engine. When I turn it off it runs quiet. What can I do? TIA

When the AC compressor engages it stresses the entire belt system. Before condemning the compressor remove the fan belt and spin all pulleys and accessories by hand to check for roughness and noise in bearings.

If it turns out the compressor is bad it obviously needs to be replaced. That should be done before it seizes up since that contaminates the AC system with metal shrapnel, requiring replacement of practically the entire system.
