I have a 2004 Acura MDX automatic 220,000 miles. It won’t go over 40mph. I have replaced transmission with a used one and put a brand new torque converter. The vtm-4 light is on. Also the traction control light is on and I can’t turn it off and on. The abs light is on. I replaced the sensor that is in the rear end for the vtm-4. I replaced the wheel sensors. I also changed the vtm-4 fluid. When I drive it I have slow acceleration and it doesn’t shift when it should and when it does it’s clunky when I reach 40mph it slows down even if I am pushing the gas. I read some similar questions and you say to do a road test with scan tool. I have a scan tool not as fancy as yours but it does live data. Don’t know if it’s good enough but what should I look for with my scan tool. It’s a thinkdiag don’t know it that is capable to do what I need it to be. What data would I look at to figure out the problem. I would give u scan tool codes but i am not with the vehicle at the moment. I’m thinking it could be crank shaft position sensor but I’ve thrown enough stuff at it just want to fix it and have it be correct. The transmission was not a fun job at all. Hopefully I didn’t put a bad transmission to replace the one I changed.
Unfortunately it sounds like you got a bad transmission. That or you have some kind of problem with the main control unit. The PCM that's giving weird data. Now. If you're anywhere near Clarksville, Tennessee, I'd gladly check it out for free during the week when I'm doing cars. Because that would be quite a treat to try to diagnose correctly. Guessing without seeing the car is pretty much impossible
What data would I look at to figure out the problemAt very least, you would need a high-end scan tool capable of reading and writing to the TCM.
I believe Scotty offered his services because it would require such a tool, which he has, and an experienced transmission mechanic to accurately diagnosis this problem.
Scan tool codes would be helpful. It sounds like there could be a network communication issue.
