Adding bar’s head seal to 99 f150

Just had my old truck’s radiator flushed and filled. Was told that this might be a good idea to add to it, but it’s at the full line. Do I need to suck some coolant out before adding the Bar’s?

You would only have to remove coolant if it's going to go above the maximum level when hot. If the coolant level is too high it could cause anything you add to go out the overflow.

However, if you have a head gasket leak Bar's Leaks is a temporary bandaid at best. It may not work at all. It may clog up your cooling system.

If you're thinking of adding Bar's Leaks as a preventative measure that is a very bad idea.

Well the mechanic said the head gasket isn’t blown blown/leaking, but it’s headed that direction and that this would be a good option to get ahead of it. But maybe not, huh?

What is the mechanic basing that on? Either it's leaking, at least a little, or it's not. If it's starting to leak and not worth doing a proper repair then you would have nothing to lose trying the stuff to get a few more miles down the road. But if no leak at all I would not use it.

I’m not exactly sure. He didn’t say specifically (I wasn’t there - my dad took it to the shop while I was working). I’m guessing the smoke - but he said he wouldn’t have any doubts taking it to DFW and back (we live about 2 hours away).

If there's coolant smoke out the tailpipe then it's leaking. A closer look is probably warranted.

Gotcha - thanks for the info 👍🏻

absolutely not.

Absolutely not what? Lol don’t use Bar’s?

correct. Good chance you'll end up with more problems than you started with.

Do you have any issues with the cooling system?

Nah it doesn’t over heat or anything. Just a tiny bit of white smoke on crank up, but I don’t notice it going down the road. (Though it’s kinda hard to tell lol). And this isn’t my daily driver - my late grandpa’s truck that I only drive occasionally.

Just leave it alone.

Oh ok. I was thinking of possibly selling it so I was trying to get it tuned up and cleaned up a little, but you guys are the experts lol. Appreciate it!
