I have a 2012 RAV 4 that had the transmission fluid flushed about 5 years ago by a private shop, and it looks like aftermarket fluid was used (receipt says synthetic multi vehiclel ATF). The shop has closed down a few years ago so I can't find out exactly what was used. My question is going forward, is it OK to simply do a drain and refill with OEM fluid (knowing only 4 or so quarts get replaced)? Should I use an aftermarket fluid? Or is the risk of messing something up by mixing fluids too great and do nothing? The car currently shifts flawlessly, just getting slightly dirty looking.
