Advice to decide which car to have: 2015 Toyota Yaris LE vs 2017 Kia Forte LX

The 17 Forte (103k miles) and 15 Yaris (94k miles) are my only viable options due to the price and value of cars in my area.

The Forte seems to have almost similar gas mileage to the Yaris and is overall a more cool/comfortable ride, but it also has more miles, and I've been wary of all the horror stories with KIA motors failing. This one has a 2.0L I4 F DOHC 16V Multi-Point Injection (MPI) engine. It looks like all of the recalls are completed including the 'Foreign Particles May Cause Oil Pump to Fail' recall, and the ignition coils were replaced back in 2018 (VIN: 3KPFK4A76HE098994). I did hear Kia has gotten better with later model cars, but it is still a concern at the back of my mind.

On the other hand, the Yaris is a reliable car, but I've driven inside it and don't like the experience too much. The 4-speed auto is loud on the road and has no passing power on the freeways. I would love something that I can be more proud of showing off so I'm leaning toward the Forte, but I don't want a car that will potentially break down relatively soon.

Appreciate any advice, Thanks

No contest, Toyota all day long.  The Kia is a rolling pile of junk.

Dang but that 4-speed auto is pretty bummy and I hate the look.

I know the Toyota will be reliable but Scotty made the KIA seem like a pretty good option in one of his videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKens23adEc

I guess it might not be worth it after all?

Don't even think about the Kia. If you don't like the Yaris, get another model from Toyota.

Unfortunately this was the only other option available to me at this time. I am weary about the high mileage and potential for engine failures but I though Scotty made it seem like a good buy in on one of his videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKens23adEc

However most people also tell me to steer clear of Kia (except on the Kia forum, lol), maybe for good reason.

In that case get the Toyota.

You have some strange expectations.

all of the recalls are completed

they will never be completed. They are just junky cars.

You'll regret the Kia and wish you had gotten something else.

no passing power

you're looking at econoboxes, not sport sedans.

something that I can be more proud of showing off

then you're looking at the wrong end of the price spectrum.

But are you buying this car for you, or for other people?
