Air Conditioning compressor not working 2006 Subaru Outback 3.0R

My Air con has suddenly stopped working, oddly enough just after I changed the pollen filter though I’m sure that is just coincidence  :hmm:

Fuses checked, relay checked and even changed with another from the relay box. I have power at the relay but nothing happens when terminals 30 &87 are connected/jumpered with a wire. The clutch coil reads 4.5 ohms which is fine, so what can it be?

Also. should it be possible to push the clutch in manually to engage? I wonder if the clutch is jammed because mine doesn't move.

Well I would say just disconnect everything from the compressor electronically then hot wire with power and ground to the AC clutch if the clutch doesn't work then you know the clutch is worn and really I only advise your place in the entire compressor with new clutch assembly because when the clutches are worn the compressors are usually pretty well worn too

Aside from the possibility of the clutch itself being bad, if refrigerant level is too low the low-pressure cutout switch will prevent the compressor from engaging in order to prevent damage.

I hot-wired the clutch as advised and it engages fine so the only conclusion I can come to is the pressure is too low, but I thought jumpering the relay contacts would bypass the low pressure sensor.

Incidentally, while checking connections in the engine bay with the ignition on I hear a high-pitched buzzing noise from the throttle body. Should I be worried about this?
