Good evening Scotty!
I have a 1998 Toyota 4Runner and just recently the alarm went off. I disconnected the negative terminal on my battery to avoid any more issues overnight. What can I do to avoid this issue in the nearby future? Thank you in advance!
Well have the battery load tested please just an old weak battery and when you get going lower certain voltage that will turn the alarm on by itself.
The battery that I've installed is a month old. What else could be the issue?
Even though the battery is a month old, have it & the alternator load tested as a weak battery is the most common cause.
If both the battery & alternator checks out, check the battery terminals for corrosion, your key fob & it’s battery, all the door ajar & hood sensors (check for dirt & debris) and lastly, all the wiring itself.
These types of problems are the most annoying types, so buy yourself a truckload of patience.
All the best!
Hey Scotty.
I wanted to give you an update on some of the issues I've encountered with my 4Runner as mentioned in here. Regarding why the alarm went off was due to some bad wiring since I connected one of the horn cables and decided to leave it out to avoid any issues. I also did mention about the shifts solenoids. Turns out all of them went out and needed to be replaced, and after almost a month later due to taking it from one place to another, waiting for parts and the whole jazz, my baby is back. She is back and she is doing very well in all honesty. Only thing that sucked was the price to repair it but I can't complain much anymore. The overall price was 938 dollars which included parts, labor, etc.
Look at the bright side, that is like weekly maintenance on a land rover!
