Hello, I am just wondering if there's a way I can get a free or cheap Carfax report for a car I am planning to sell soon. I am planning to just buy the three pack, but how long do they last until they expire? I know they aren't going to tell everything on a car that has ever happened to it, but its just interesting to see and it is helpful when selling a car, because I have no idea how many owners my cars have had.
The CarFax's are good for a full year from date of purchase. There are a few ways you can obtain one: by VIN or by plate.
If you just need a report for one car, buy just the single report....no need to purchase a triple pack. Of course, you can always print the report and have a hard copy forever if you want.
The prices are basically set and never go on sale/get reduced.
However, if you have your VIN, why not use a free report from iseecars.com? Here is a link:
Their reports are powered by the National Insurance Crime Bureau and is completely free for anyone to use. You just have to have the full 17 digit VIN.
Whatever you do, DO NOT just Google free VIN report because you'll have a million fraudulent site recommendations.
I tried the iseecars VIN report, but it only provides basic info. NCBI does contribute free theft info, but if you want accident/title/owners data you have to give money to AutoCheck.
Interesting. I tried my VIN for my Accord there and it showed 1 owner, no accidents, current market value, etc. Well......heck. {black}:idontknow:
maybe you have an account + subscription already so it shows your automatically.
Huh. Well I apologize. I very well may. If that's the case, I'd recommend OP just buy a single report and save money rather than buy two that he may not use.
I use VIN checks very often, such as vincheck.info and vehiclehistory.com Iseecars seems to be a good option but it has limited uses. Thank you for the info on the CarFaxs. Was just curious to see if there was some little secret deal people knew about. I know there's some loophole on eBay where you can get a free carfax but I think they might have figured that out already. Thank you for the info
@mod_man I'm going to use two on the cars I own, one I plan to sell and one I plan to keep (just out of curiosity) and for another car I'm gonna buy later this year down the line.
Oh well ok that makes sense then. Yeah, no real secret to getting a free report unless you are buying a car. Then the seller should provide you with one if requested.
Unfortunately even as an owner you can't get a discount on the history reports. For those of us in Canada there is a different site for Carfax Canada.
