Battery icon remains somewhat dimly lit whether the vehicle is on or off. Nothing actually wrong with charging system. The icon has been lit like that for around 2 years. My voltage gauge functions just fine. When I did need an alternator, I could tell because the gauge needle was dipping.
Anyway, I thought maybe something in grounding wiring is the reason?

Well that is just a warning system and it could be the warning system. Wiring is breaking down. Check the ground wiring first and often will do that
