So bottom line, to test that alternator make sure the Field (-) terminal is either soldered to the alternator case or a jumper wire is attached to the case.

If you then run a jumper wire from the Battery Positive terminal to the Field (+) terminal (removing the voltage regulator and all its wiring from the equation) the alternator will produce maximum alternator output if the alternator is good.

(You're just mimicking the regulator's internal Line circuit when the regulator is commanding maximum alternator output)

Only do this for a quick voltage reading of the alternator output. You don't want the alternator at maximum output for too long.

Have you tested the alternator and regulator using the procedure in the factory shop manual? These days it's not unusual for replacement parts to be defective, especially for a car that's nearly 60 years old.

Checking all the ground connections might work if all else is well...  Corrosion or patina maybe hurting connections???

charging system is still not working

so it's not charging your batter?

How much voltage are you getting?
