What scan tool, below $500, seems like a good one to get the job done? Plus being able to code new keys is a real bonus!

Just realize no scanner will check every box for every car, so be wary of a web site's "coverage checker". They'll all claim they can do more than they're able to deliver.

Realistically, searching Amazon's site under "Code Readers & Scan Tools", sorting by your price range, "Best Sellers" & "Average Customer Reviews", looking at a particular models features, comparing updating/subscription costs, searching through the reviews for coverage specific results, etc.. it's about the only way to get a grasp of what a model might do without it being actually being plugged into a particular vehicle.

Scotty suggested a couple at the top right off this page under the "TOOLS" tab .
