Hey Scotty, I have a 97 Toyota 4runner that just hit 300k. Automatic A340F transmission. 5vz-fe v6, 4wd
It’s been acting strange the last few months. When I breaked fast over a bump I heard a screech sound, and ever since then the acceleration feels labored, as though something is holding it back or resisting it.
It seemed to go away or not as bad rather with time. 2 day ago something blew in some manner around the transmission, I developed a bad leak. I wasn’t aware of it. Yesterday I took it for a drive on the highway and revs started slightly to go up, so I pulled off immediately. Come to find chocolate milk of coolant and transmission fluid combined blasted all over the engine bay, and dripping below the car. When I drove the car the last few days I notice the held back thing again.
I wonder if this has to do with each other. I mentioned the car feeling held back or something resisting the acceleration, the energy from the engine was going somewhere else and eventually built up fatigue to blow these things?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Update:
A pressure crack formed in the top of the radiator, and no coolant in the system. That’s what made the mess in the engine bay. The coolant reservoir as well was jammed full of the fluid and coolant mix. Other cracks or blast in the system possible im not aware of. Still leaking choc milk as of this morning. Haven’t touched or ran it since. Towed to mechs. They won’t get to it for a while, though they never believed me on the lugged acceleration to begin with from few months earlier when I brought it in after screech incident. Claimed it was just older car performance. They Noted more spill this morning underneath. I just want them to get it right. Checked all fluid levels. No trans fluid or coolant after the blast

Well if coolant and transmission fluid got mixed that would destroy the automatic transmission. Or if engine oil and coolant mix that would destroy the engine internally I would assume one of those is the culprit down
Engine oil is ok, checked and still clean and clear, and at proper level. I'm assuming this will mean new transmission, and of course radiator.
Bizarre for this to happen to a 4runner. Any ideas of what could have cause this?
Thank you, your response means volumes!
