[Solved] Blower motor ... ?

Twice in 2 weeks the HVAC fan on my 2007 Sentra failed to run upon starting the car.

I slapped the dashboard each time, and it immediately started working again.

It only happened (so far) upon start-up. It doesn't fail while already running, and adjusts all air speeds just fine.

Should I assume it's the blower motor (that Nissan decided it would be fun to stuff above the gas pedal)?

Probably, but also could be the switch (unlikely, but possible)

Thanks. Next time I will tap the dial first.

Yep. The oilite motor bushings eventually dry up, wear out and seize up. Time for a new motor. They're not too expensive and easy to install.

Lol. Not this one. Looks like I have to remove brake/accelerator pedals to get it out.

oh no really! Nissan put it on the driver's side??

Of course. Just to annoy me.

I have 2011 Sentra with 145k miles and just had the blower motor replaced 2 months ago. I paid a mechanic, it was about a 6 hour job because had to take the dash board apart. Parts and labor came to $950. I wish I would have tried it myself. Although 6 hours for a pro would have been 12-18 probably for me to do it.

that's insane. Nissan designers have lost their minds. On all my vehicles it was a $30 part and around 15 mins of work under the hood. Never touched the dash.
