hi folks, new member here, i have a 2007 toyota tundra sr5 4x4 a/t, 155000 miles, top shape and oil changes every 3000 miles, all services up to date, just did water pump and timing belt kit done, drives great too, love this truck, just recently i noticed puff of blue smoke on start up, not every start up either, it happens to both cold and hot engine also, did not expect this from toyota so needless to say im little concerned, any ideas ? thanks in advance
I replace them at every oil change because it's easy and inexpensive and I don't want the consequences of not doing it. Next for you would probably be a compression test to see if the rings are on the way out.
i noticed some oil residue where hose meets pcv valve, i will take it out and inspect / replace, i hope its not rings at 155000 miles but strangest things do happen, what is acceptable psi that im looking for on compression test ?
Why the down vote? The pcv valve only costs about $7.50 and a new one at each 5000 mile oil change guarantees a smooth running engine.
sorry about that down vote, that was done by mistake, did not mean to do that at all, my bad
About 180 psi with less than 10% difference between cylinders.
Since you've already changed the PCV valve, it sounds like you're describing a small valve stem seal leak.
Blue smoke on startup.
Pretty easy to distinguish it from leaking piston rings.
With leaking piston rings, if you mash down on the gas pedal, blue smoke will pour from the exhaust pipe. With leaking valve seals, it won't.
Also, with rings, not only will oil get into the combustion chamber, gas will get into the crankcase oil so your oil will smell like gas.
To remedy that blue smoke on startup, aside from actually replacing the valve stem seals, you can try adding AT-205 Re-Seal to your engine oil.
Scotty did a video on this stuff, using it to fix a leaky transmission seal. It worked.
Other people have posted youtubes on using this stuff to remedy leaky valve stem seals (and other engine seals).
I just watched one where this guy's little Suzuki jeep was belching blue smoke on startup. He added the stuff, put about 20 hours of driving time on the jeep, and it stopped the jeep from smoking on startup.

So maybe watch Scotty's video and some other youtubes. You may want to give it a try. It certainly won't hurt anything.

thanks, i will add some at-205, we'll see what happens
A lot of people also think that they don't need to change their trans fluid and filter either. They are all now on this forum asking what's wrong with their transmission.
i agree, all that talk about lifetime fluid and sealed trans, i dont play that game, i just did trans fluid service with toyota ws fluid at 140000, drives smooth, thanks for all your advise, im replacing pcv today, hopefully that corrects the issue
Hope it helps.
Have you replaced the PCV valve lately? I do it with every oil/filter change.
thanks for the reply, i replaced it with new toyota pcv at 138000 miles, old one did not look bad either and there was no blue smoke issue at that time, i just did it for piece of mind, is this a known issue on these vehicles ? i never heard of anybody replaceing it at every oil change
