BMW X5 diesel 2018

Hi. Thanks for in advance for your feedback. I am currently leasing the x5d and it has 56000km. The mileage is amazing and I was considering to purchase it after the lease because they stopped making diesel. Is the 2018 differ from the previous diesel x5 or is it all a money pit regardless? BMW sales told me they would only buy a diesel but not a gasoline car because of the cheap plastic. Thanks again!

I would not buy an X5, diesel or gasoline. Since you're already leasing it, buying that same car after the lease is over would be quite expensive in terms of total money spent on the car. Plus, you'll be on your own for repairs after the lease ends. Those diesel BMWs tend to be problematic once they get 8 years old or so. Sales is probably telling you they're better than gas BMWs to try to convince you to buy the car. The truth is all modern BMWs use cheap plastic stuff that gets brittle over time and breaks. I'd hand that X5 back to BMW once your lease term expires and look at a more long-term reliable car if you want to buy.

I wish BMWs weren’t moneypits because they really are nice cars. Alas, they are moneypits.

So wish I.

Moneypit... Remeber, there are other parts of a car besides the engine, and all the high tech stuff isn't cheap to keep working.

Leasing was the good thing to do, you would want to get rid of it at the end of the lease so avoid expensive maintenaince and repair bills filling your mailbox.

Do not buy it, diesel or not, they will become money pits as you rack up the miles and age.  Keep in mind there is still a lot of technology that can break and cost a small fortune to fix.  Also, diesels systems today (not the engine but the systems around it that make it work and meet emissions) thanks to our government regulators have become very complex and repairs on those will be especially expensive if something goes wrong.
