Brake Pedal hard to depress before starting the car

Hi Scotty, avid fan here..i have a question. why is it that my brake pedal is hard to depress when the engine is off? i used to depress it 2 times before it gets hard when the engine is off..but when i start the engine, it goes back to normal.

Brakes are boosted when the engine is running.

 

You don't need to pump them, or press really hard when you're starting.

i always depress the brake pedal before starting the car because it is an automatic. lately i've noticed that its hard to depress, its not like this before.

OK so you're saying the pedal is stiffer than normal.
I would have all the brakes checked for wear. It might just be time for service.
