Can I buy new brake parts online?

Hello I have a 2004 honda accord lx 4 cylinder.  So I sometimes ask this one guy on YouTube who is a mechanic questions. He told me before not to get motor mounts online ever, so would the same go for brakes, like cam I buy them at a autozone let's say and that will be fine? I was told by a dealership that I need brakes, now if I do order them online do I just need brakes pads or is there an actual brake I need to order along with the brake pads?

Did the dealership say anything else? If not, they weren't very helpful.

It depends on what you need ...

brake pads

brake rotors

brake calipers ....

Are you doing the job yourself?

They just said the front breaks need to be changed, they said there about 50 percent gone

Probably just pads but wait until they’re at 10%

Everything the dealer says is a lie, even the day of the week.  Take @oldguy72 and @mmj advice and take it to an independent shop.  If you don't have experience with brakes, this is not a DIY job, better left to the pros.

Well I would but I just spent over 200 at the dealership. So maybe I'll just wait a few weeks so I can save up some more

So take it to your mechanic and have him check to see what parts you need. He should also be willing to recommend a brand he likes.
Once you determine what you need, you can compare online prices to local parts store prices. Keep in mind online shipping costs and if by chance they send the wrong part(s), the cost and process/hassle of returning and re-ordering.
But if the dealer says that your brake pads are only “50 percent gone”, their advice to replace them doesn’t seem reasonable. But your mechanic can measure or observe the amount of pad life remaining.
