Hey Scotty, I’ve got my Mother in laws 2018 Honda HR-V at my place for some A/C repairs. She bought it from a used car dealer so I don’t have much knowledge about the previous repair history. It has 55,000 Kms on it. The old A/C compressor was locked up so I purchased a replacement. I replaced the compressor and the Receiver Drier. I flushed the entire system and Vacuumed it down for about an hour. I charged it up to the correct volume (0.4kg) with R134a. When I initially started the vehicle it blew nice and cold for about 3-5 minutes. Shortly after the new compressor started making a very loud grinding noise. I quickly disconnected the electrical connector and it went away. I noticed when it started making the loud grinding noise the clutch stayed engaged but it began blowing hot air inside of the cabin. I shut off the vehicle and let it rest. Re-tried again and the exact same thing happened. I re evacuated the system, vacuumed and recharged it again. The same thing keeps happening. Im stuck Scotty. Your help would be greatly appreciated :).
Well either you got a bad compressor like a cheap Chinese made one or the system has internal problems that the previous locked up compressor sent metal pieces and those are almost impossible to get out you have to flush it completely replace the condenser the expansion valve and the dryer
Thank you Scotty I will do so
What has probably happened since you did not replace the other parts is metal debris left over from the failed compressor destroyed the new one. As Scotty says, when replacing a failed compressor in addition to flushing it is necessary to replace the condenser, expansion valve, and drier since those parts cannot be successfully flushed. The expansion valve should prevent debris from getting into the evaporator but if that part is easily accessed it's best to replace the evaporator as well while doing the job.
Thanks for the info chuck!
