1974 Alfa Romeo Spider guardian angel applying my brakes

Hey Scotty,

The car is a 1974 Alfa Romeo Spider, when I drive for a while especially going over a mountain the brakes will start to slowly apply themselves, I can smell them heating up and I have to pull over to let them cool off. It is not the emergency brake and it is not me applying the brakes. Could my guardian angel be applying the brakes for me; what's up?

Heat soak would usually cause loss of braking I would try getting the brake fluid flushed out and bled and check all the pins and pistons in the calipers for sticking or drag when hot

Calipers could be dragging, or brake hoses could be deteriorating and preventing the calipers from releasing completely. How old are they?

Old and I've wondered if somehow a bit of water vapor or something that is affected by altitude or some aggressive use of the brakes may be expanding in the brake lines with use or maybe the wrong type of brake fluid was put in it many years ago when it was driven more?

Hard to say exactly what is triggering the problem but if the hydraulic parts are more than just a couple of decades old on that nearly half-century old vehicle it's time to think about renewing them.

sounds like a booster issue

Thanks, I'll look into it.
