2002 Cobra 255000
Scotty in the seconds I wanted to ask "why does a car do better at acceleration and higher RPMs than driving steady at lower speeds like 25-35MPH?"
My rear driver's side tire started billowing white smoke. I was genuinely about to pull over and ask when I got home. Something made me turn around and come home anyway.
The Caliper is toasted and the Rotor is hot. All the other Rotors are cool.
Been throwing water on her because it scared me. Never saw that one before, had her for a huge part of my life.
Did she answer my question on her own? It's the Caliper making her weird (shaky) unless I'm accelerating?
Or is this two different problems happening at the same time?
Can't take care of it right now, but she's definitely not gonna get driven until I do.
If I can ask an additional question, and it's n not the dumbest one possible: Is this quite point blank how you can tell a Caliper is going out? She hasn't had braking problems, she just has smoking problems, she really takes after me. Maybe she just got into my cigarettes haha. I wish.
Nothing says "Get on Carkiller" like an almost paranormal event when I'm thinking about ya. Thanks.
PS. I've heard when one Caliper goes, you should replace em in a pair. Tried to touch and make sure it wasn't something else in the wheel too. Tire's fine for how bad that almost got. (It felt like a flat while I was driving but I was 15 seconds from the driveway at least. I know it's bad but I couldn't leave her where she was.)
you need to inspect your brakes, since they're dragging. either your parking brake is seized/binding, or your hydraulic brakes lines are rotten.
or disintegrated wheel bearings
Same thing happened to me last year except it was a front wheel. Felt like I was driving on a flat tire. Never had this happen to me before. I replaced the caliper and rubber brake line, problem solved. I replaced only the bad one. Like Joe said, my initial thought was it could have been the bearing, but there was no play when jacked up and pulling on the wheel. Calipers can go bad without warning, sometimes you car begins pulling to one side as if out of alignment.
