Buying 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport with a replaced transmission.

Here is the Carfax report:  https://imgur.com/a/1U1wJKH

So I am buying this car from my housemate since he graduated and will be leaving the country. The accident is not so minor. Apparently, they had to swap the transmission and replace the driver's door, because some lady sideswiped him when he was double-parked. The total came out to be around $10,000. They repaired it at an insurance-approved auto shop, not the dealership. I am not sure if there is frame damage. My friend said the car drives like normal since he got it replaced one year ago. He will be providing the document. I am also planning to take this car to a mechanic for inspection.

Would you guys recommend buying a car with a replaced transmission? And what would you pay for this car?

I would not consider it. The fact they changed the transmission tells you that it was in a bad wreck and you don't know what will happen in future for a modern car that was in a major accident.

He was thinking about $30k.

I would run as far away from this deal as possible.  Carfax reports are a bad joke and unreliable.  It might be worth it if your house mate would pay you to take the car.

Add to the mix that the seller is leaving the country and we wind up with way too much of a risk, especially at that price. Probably too much of a risk even if it was half that price.

Wow, really? Even with proper documentation that it was replaced with a new transmission and inspection at an auto shop, this is still no good? He was thinking about $30k.

Run away. For $30K, run even faster.

Agree with above.

The "proper documentation" of work performed is meaningless. Of course the shop is going to claim on their invoice that they did an A1 job and everything turned out just fine and dandy.
