Buying 2018 Camry Hybrid Sight Unseen?

First time asking a question….not sure what the odds are the man Scotty himself sees this…but I’m guessing there are other highly experienced mechanics on here too!

Bad idea to buy a one owner 2018 Camry Hybrid sight unseen?   Only reason I’m considering it is because it’s “certified used” and has Toyotas warranty….it’s 430 miles from me (I’m MO, it’s in MN).  12 hours driving round trip to look and then figure out how to get it home…or one way flight to get it….or I could ship it for around $500.

It has 65K miles and they are asking $25K.  There are some closer but only grey ones and I like the blue one that’s in MN….I’m guessing some snow birds had it.  Bought new in Jun 2018 and was serviced at the dealer they bought it…and during winter months it was serviced at a dealer in FL.

cheers

Never buy a car sight unseen unless you're a professional. CPO means absolutely nothing at some dealerships. You could order a mobile mechanic service online (links somewhere in this forum idk just search it I guess), but if you're not there who's to say they won't just bribe the mechanic?

It is a bad idea, period. Buying any vehicle sight unseen is like gambling at the casino. You either get lucky or get scammed.

Yes, you always want to check out a used car before you buy it.  Ideally, you’d want a mechanic with a fancy scan tool like Scotty’s to examine the car and test it (including a road test) before you buy it, especially a hybrid to make sure the batteries and stuff are still good.

“Certified used” means nothing these days.  You can’t trust they actually checked everything.  You still need a good mechanic to check everything before you buy it.

Thanks for talking sense into me....my logic was flawed thinking since it had a year/12000 warranty...if anything turned out to be wrong that would be my safety blanket....

I just can't justify a 6 hour drive one way....so much for blue! lol  It could be a good find for someone closer...having been owned by appears to be snowbirds!

Good decision. Additionally, if the car did have a problem covered by the 12 month 12,000 mile warranty… how would you transport it back to the dealership for the service work?
