Hi Scotty,
I’m looking for a new Honda (or any car that is what I’m looking for) preferably a nice looking one of course but I’m working with a 15k and under budget. I watch your Honda videos all the time but I don’t know which used Honda to shoot for that has it all. Super reliable, good technology, newer, looks good, least problems down the road, etc. your advice will probably be what I shoot for but if you can please email me I’d really appreciate your opinion! (By the way thank you for your content you helped me in the past with my power steering issue with my 04 Honda Accord LX)
I don't think you can buy a brand new Honda for $15K - the closest would be a Honda Fit for $17-19K. I would consider a 2016+ Honda Civic LX. These have the naturally aspirated 2.0L engine, so no need to worry about oil dilution. The ones with manual transmissions are the best, but the CVTs on those have been pretty reliable so far.
New for 15k seems hard. I would go with used ones. 2016+ Honda Civic w/ 2.0 engine is a good choise. So is the Honda Fit (the most common complaint about it is the seats which some find uncomfortable after a while). You know, the last gen Accord. I can find 2017+ CR-Vs 2.4 engine for around 17 18 grand those are good SUVs. The lineup is good I would avoid the newer Odysseys and Ridgelines and Passports and the rest are honestly pretty good with Naturally Aspirated engines.
Yeah I’m not looking for a brand new Honda but I want something with navigation or some new technology that I don’t have to install myself. And I also heard cvt transmission overall is a piece of junk?
No it isn't. Some new applications of the CVT in the 2013 Accord, 2015 CR-V, and older Insights did have some issues but the newer ones are one of the best out there after Toyota, like you would expect. I wouldn't not buy a Honda because it has a CVT. Consider a 2016 or newer Honda Civic with the 2.0 engine, not the 1.5 Turbo, and you should be fine.
My cousin commutes 150 miles and he loves Honda Accords!
Whatever you decide to buy see if the seller will agree to let you have the car inspected by a reputable mechanic before you buy it! If the seller says no, then walk away.
I personally prefer the manual transmissions in whatever vehicle I buy, but they're getting more and more difficult to find.
Yes but I can find many Accords wit manuals they are still not dead thankfully buy everyone is different if you want a car to own troublefree and your priorities are it to be comfortable and practical, get the Camry. If you want to have some fun and sacrifice just a tiny bit of reliability, comfort, and practicallity, you could be happy with the Accord.
if u need to get a newer honda then go for 2L civic (preferably manual), i would not consider a newer CRV or accord due to smaller engines with turbo on them
if not, toyota camry are better with 6 speed auto over cvt model years 2012-2016. newer ones with 8 speed have some problem cos they shift too fast
The 2017-2018 Honda CR-V did have the 1.5T engine, but it also came with the 2.4 naturally aspirated engine which was on the LX trim. The 2018 Honda CR-V LX should also be on your shopping list if you do consider a Honda.
Also, the transmission issues were only in the 2018 model year. The 2017 year was a 6 speed auto and 2018 did have issues, but Toyota seems to have solved the issue for 2019 model year:

in canada, crv 2017 to present are 1.5l on all trims lol. for their fix was adjustin the software for shift points, even if they did it still feels more unnatural then a 6 speed which has been produce for a decade
Well in USA the 2017-2018 w/ the LX trim came with a naturally aspirated 2.4 I4 engine pared to a standard CVT. In 2019, the issue was fixed with the 1.5T oil burning.
So if I was going to shoot for a long term car that looks good, Honda or not, what would you steer me towards?
2012-2016 camry with 6 speed auto
