Hi Scotty,
I have been watching and learning all about what the most reliable vehicles are. I currently have a 2011 BMW X5 that I bought with 94k on it about 3yrs ago which now has 134k on it. I took it to my tech and he told me he found metal shavings in the oil pan. He then followed up with...u need a new motor. Honestly speaking, I love the car, the design, the sound; of the speakers as well as the ride. But I stumbled onto your channel and I am convinced that I need to go TOYOTA. I am looking for an idea of which direction I should go in. I love the RX350 and its luxury options. It’s a quite ride and it has pleanty of space to haul my bands PA system, which fits perfectly into the X5. My concern with going with a Lexus rx350 is the repair costs vrs less possible repair costs if I get into a 4Runner limited. Can u provide any feedback on this?
The Lexus is indeed costlier to fix but then they rarely break down. The 4Runner is not a bad choice at all but it’s not as luxurious as the Lexus.
Thank you I think I’m going with the Lexus. I just have anxiety about buying an older one and having to spend like 5k on it within the first year. This is what my BMW has kept me used to. Do you recommend a good year? I was looking at the 2015 with higher miles and the circular dial instead of the joystick thingy. Otherwise, what other years do u recommend and should I look out for a certain ammount of mileage?
Lexus repair costs and reliability is nothing like BMW make sure to have it checked by a mechanic as well.
@Petefromboston Sure the 2015 is excellent. The ones post 2010 are almost faultless. As with any used car, get it checked by a reputed mechanic before you buy the car. When you say high mileage, if it’s below 150k miles, it should still have plenty of life left. As always, the higher the mileage, the more you can negotiate on the price. Just don’t buy one with a pre existing problem & get sweet talked into it being a cheap fix, post purchase. Buy one that already runs perfectly. (Hence the expensive to fix, but rarely break down comment).
The Lexus vehicles are nothing like BMWs when it comes to maintenance.
@inthrustwetrust
certainly
If you love the RX350 then I would look into those.
They are not that expensive to repair as they don't break down much. It is indeed a bit more expensive when you get into engine repairs at 20 years old or so but nothing like a BMW.
The 4runner is also a good choise and will last 300 400k miles easily they are bulletproof but it won't be as luxurious as an RX. Test them out. See if the luxury of the RX is more appealing to you than the ride and interior of a 4runner limited. If you are stuck between or the 4runner is more to your taste, especially if it is less expensive, get the 4runner it will last forever.
But are you talking new or used? If new, the 4runner will be cheaper but the RX will also not need repairs for 15 20 years so it could be worth it to get the RX. If used, you might save more on repairs with the 4runner. What do you value and what condition?
I just rented a RAV4 and have also test drove a brand new 4Runner, now as far as those vehicles go they get the job done but I do enjoy a more quiet ride either way.
