Hey I’m driving a Ford ranger at the moment and I’d like to get a 2014 Honda Civic lx with a manual transmission. In maine they go for about 13-15k with around the 80-100k miles on them roughly. Do you think that’s reasonable or I’d make out okay?
Just a FYI. Have a good mechanic that is trust Worthy and knows his stuff look it over. There is a lot of shady and dirty doings with this over inflated car market. I read few weeks back that used car lots and dealership are swapping ecus and or reprogramming cars to have less mileage. They had a story about a woman who went to buy a 2008 Nissan Altima with 35,000 miles on the clock. Lucky she knew to have a mechanic look it over. The mechanic was suspicious about the car. After tracking the vin through the DMV and his co workers research they found out the car had 213,000 miles. The dealership actually falsified documents and sent false data to Carfax and others to cover there tracks. It turns out they took a ECU and cluster from a junkyard one that had 35,000 miles and installed in that in the car and did the rest of the process with a fancy computer. So always be careful and have someone who knows what there doing look it over and make sure you do reach as well. I know this is a little off topic but worth telling.
Currently the fair market price is around 8500 average in fair condition 11,000 average in excellent condition . 9250 in very good . These are overall averages. The book it's self is slightly higher at 9000 to 12000. Depending on condition. There is also a few recalls with these cars. One of them has to do with the transmission.

15k is about 70% of what a new one costs.
I would NOT get an 8 year old with mid-high millage for almost the price of a new one.
That's what some new small sedans cost with 10 year warranties, although I do NOT recommend them - but it just illustrates how overpriced used cars currently are.
If you can continue driving what you current have - I think it's not worth buying anything used.
$13 to $15K for an 8-year-old honda? Nope! I wouldn't pay more than $4K for an old sled like that but I'm also biased, I don't care for honda or toyota.
What’s your go to car brand? @rod-iron
Ford or GM and yes, I know they aren't popular but that's what I like. I'm also cheap! I shopped for 7 months until I found a deal I liked on my Cadillac.
I feel the same way about American cars. I've been working as a at home and road side mechanic for 16 years mostly for fun on the side . The only thing I know about American cars is they break down and are very poorly made. American cars are the hillbilly cousins of the Germans. Even half customers have regrets after buying one. This one women said it best. Buy an American car is like a bar hook up. You go to sleep happy but you wake up with regret and say what was I thinking.
I'd keep the Ranger
Maine weather not compatible with low slung cars imo
Don't get me wrong Hondas are great cars. It's just no matter how good a car is you still need to do your research and have someone who knows what there doing look it over. It just sucks that there jacking prices up. If you find one you like, it checks out and you can get them down some then go for it. Even if it's a grand above the average fair market that still isn't to bad . Especially with this car market. I understand not wanting something like that in your area. When averaging over 50 inches of snow you want something that doesn't get stuck and you can actually get around in.
