Buying a used diesel vehicle

Scotty, what would be some things to look for when having a used diesel vehicle checked out by a mechanic prior to purchase?

Clarification: What make, model, and model years are you looking at?

I'll probably get some shit for it, but I'm looking at the Volkswagen diesels, either the Jetta, Golf or Passat. They only made them until 2015, so any model years prior to that. Something with 62000 miles or less

All diesel trucks today are computerized: Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke. Ask for documentation-what was replaced. Also ask the owner how they treated the vehicle and what did they use it for. Test driving is an absolute MUST. Check the electronics to make sure everything works.

If you want to buy a used diesel truck, start off with a older Dodge Ram 5.9 Cummins- it's less computerized and it's a good truck in the end.

Thanks. Anything specific to look inti the mehcanical components? Glow plugs etc.

Do check that, the transmission and radiator. Check the exhaust as well.
