I’m buying a 2002 Subaru wrx , not sure of the mileage but I’m getting it cheap for $1800 , the only thing he says is wrong with it is the key is missing and he can’t find anyone to make a new one, now I was a locksmith for 5 years and know that the car is a non transponder so it’s pretty easy to make, do you think it’s a good deal? Also what should I do to it since it’s been sitting? I assume change the fluids?
Here is the dead give away - "the only thing he says is wrong with it..." Seriously? If you've got $1800 to spend, I would think you'd do better to spend it on lottery tickets than a 20 year old Subaru.
I see too many red flags here. You will most likely spend several times that amount in repairs. I would walk away.
I would look at something else. The price isn't terrible and although you might get somewhat of a good deal, because it was sitting for a while, it might need an engine or transmission overhaul.
Yikes there are many concerns there. If you can a get and there is no major issues with the car it could be a deal. You can't much for 1800. My cut tells me to run away from this.
WOW!!
You need to get it looked at in person by someone who knows Subaru’s. An intact bugeye is worth far more than that even in nonrunning condition. It almost sounds too good to be true. Make sure it is legit (like no counterfeit parts) and that everything on it either works or is repairable.
Bugeye values are going up. They are extremely desirable. So either the seller doesn’t know what they have or they’re hiding something.
I wouldn’t quite say this is a “money is no object” kind of car. But if that thing is legit and you carefully fix what needs fixing, you’ll easily be able to flip it for multiple times that price.
PS: it’s been a while since I priced bugeye WRXs, but as I recall, fixers are typically $3-5k, running and driving cars is average condition are $5-10k, and high quality restored cars are $10-15k. So run it by a WRX forum and see what they say.
