[Solved] Should I buy a 32yr old Camry as my first car?

I am in college and I'm looking for used cars to buy, I live about 6 hours away from my hometown

I found a 1991 Toyota Camry CE sedan 4D with 157,000 miles, automatic its from a marketplace listing asking for 3,000$. I just wanted to ask if it would be a good first car to buy, my only concern would be if the car were to leave me stranded as its 30 years old. Along with how much life is left for the car, I know that Toyotas have a good life span and just wanna make sure this car is worth it.

Thank you 🙂 /p>

Unless you are very handy at doing your own repairs it's way too old. Anything that old is going to need lots of TLC. Most mechanics won't touch it since it lacks OBD2. Also too much money for a 32-year-old Camry - those are not exactly collector cars.

No freaking way! Not more than $800-$1000.

Exactly, who knows what all is due for repair.

I’d pass, if you’re looking for dependable transportation. For $3000, look for something much newer.

If this 1991 Camry is your only option, have it thoroughly inspected by a professional mechanic, before purchase. Even then, not more than $800-1000.

Do you recommend any of the newer Camrys or Corollas?

How much newer?

These links will show you the Camry years to avoid https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Camry/

With the Corollas, the ones with the 1.8 liter engine are OK for any year, the 2.4 ones should be avoided

You'll want to avoid models with known problems, like those with the 2AZ-FE 2.4L oil burning engine.
